Build Your Own Packaging Prep Table

As the last part of the transaction between you and your end customer, the packaging gives a good impression. You will therefore have to take the time to design solid and attractive packaging, which conveys a

Severe image of your company and which contributes to the appreciation of your products.

How to go about it?

First of all, you will need to provide your order pickers an adequate and ergonomic workstation. Thus, maximize their productivity, and minimize the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) associated with adopting poor posture.

There are, of course, ready-to-use industrial workstations or even professional workbenches that you can buy second-hand. But you take the risk in the first case of spending a large sum, and in the second of recovering a poor quality workstation.

Also, guard yourself against two risks: build your order picking table. You will thus have total control over costs and will be able to make a custom-made, ergonomic workstation adapted to your needs.

Packaging, real added value for customer satisfaction

Today, custom packaging for small business go far beyond their sole function of protecting goods. More innovative, even connected, they allow customers and logisticians to benefit from invaluable information on the state of the delivery at a given time. For the customer, the packaging dramatically contributes to his satisfaction. It represents a case in which he will find the product he ordered. This is the philosophy fully embraced by Bergamots, a specialist in home flower delivery, which relies heavily on the quality of its packaging.

Essential tools and materials

Before embarking on heavy lifting, it is important to review the necessary tools. To make your own custom-made order picking workbench, you will need:

  • A drill/screwdriver;
  • A mini circular saw ;
  • A clamp ;
  • A nailer ;
  • A wooden mallet ;
  • A dimensional metal shelf 192 x 120 x 50 cm;
  • MDF panels 1,200 x 600 x 16 mm and 1,200 x 600 x 3 mm;
  • Two steel tubes2000 x 12 mm;
  • Wood screws and bolts for shelves ;
  • Necklaces ;
  • Two handles for drawers ;
  • Hooks.

Do you have everything?

  • The tools and materials needed to make your preparation table.
  • The steps to follow to create your industrial packaging table
  • Fit the lower part of the metal shelf
  • This very first step in building your mobile workshop workbench consists of assembling its lower part.

To do this, provide yourself with:

  • 8 profiles of 96 cm;
  • 4 uprights of 120 cm and 4 of 50 cm for the shelves;
  • 8 steel reinforcement bars;
  • Four chipboard boards are 1 cm thick.

Assemble the profiles and the three floors to form a table. Go up-part-lower-shelf adapt the top of the shelf.

Now that your table is set up, you have to get down to the arrangement of the upper part of the shelf. It will have 3 sides and will accommodate a floor equipped with a separator.

Let's break down the steps to follow:

Join two 96cm profiles with one of the remaining 120cm bars. Come and put the new chipboard board on the lower part of the shelf made in the first step. To support the profile, drill holes in the panel to match the shape and secure the two components using the clamps.

Cut the two MDF boards to the following dimensions: 500 x 250 x 16 mm. Drill them, and then screw the bolts on the two profiles of the structure created previously. Cut out the two remaining profiles so that they are 50 cm long. Attach the two 50 cm long profiles to the two 50 cm longboards, taking care to form the lateral sides of the upper structure.

Secure the lower and upper parts of the shelf with the 90 cm profiles of the upper structure using bolts. Arrange the frame and its accessories on the upper part now; let's build the upper part of the workbench, intended to receive the essential accessories for preparation of commands.

Cut an MDF board with the following dimensions: 120 x 25 cm and 3 dividers with 20 x 25 cm. Fix the three dividers on the board every 30 cm to form 4 compartments of 30 cm that you will fix with the wood screws.

To fix the shelf on the upper part, use the remains of the profiles cut in the previous step. Cut them to obtain 2 mini-profiles of 20 cm each and 1 shape of 4 cm.

Attach the profiles to the lower part of the panels of the upper part of the table, approximately 12 cm from the top edge. Then fix the 40 cm profile on the central region, then a 20 cm profile on each side part using the bolts.

Finally, lay the board with the dividers.

Tip: By making two holes on the side panels, you can fix the 130 cm steel bars that will allow you to support the protective packaging.

Place the shelf and accessories on the upper part

Make the drawers to store the accessories

Last step: this consists in making the drawers with the dividers to organize the essential accessories so that workstation is complete properly.

Cut 2 MDF panels 112 cm long, 7 cm high, and 4 boards 45 cm long and 7 cm tall. With the boards, form a rectangle and screw them together. Finally, screw the two remaining 45 cm boards to create separators. Finally, nail the 3 mm thick MDF boards on the back to form the drawers. At the front, drill and arrange the two handles about 30 cm from the edge.

Make a drawer to contain the accessories.

The advantages of creating your packing station
